Marion Walker has been selected as the 2023-2024 Whitman Support Professional of the Year!
Marion started at Whitman as a substitute teacher in 2002. She eventually became a mild-moderate paraprofessional and supported students with special needs for more than twenty years. Two years ago, she switched to her current role as a teacher assistant.
"I changed careers from being a nurse to being a teacher because I love the feeling of seeing growth in my students, especially when I challenge them to do better. I believe that all children can learn!"
As a teacher assistant, Marion assists in pre-K and first grade classrooms with small group instruction, focusing mainly on math and reading.
"In the 22 years that I have been with Tulsa Public Schools, I have grown tremendously in terms of working and collaborating with my colleagues, learning how to do jobs that are not in my comfort zone, and realizing that I love working with children and helping them achieve their maximum potential."
