To help promote healthy eating habits and cultivate knowledge on where food comes from Whitman has a Teaching Garden located outside the school. The garden is sponsored by D&L Oil Tools and The American Heart Association's Heart Walk along with donations from Colebrook Nursery.
Each grade level has their own portion the garden and feels a sense of investment in their crops. They help to plant the seeds, stop and check on them periodically, and then help harvest them. At the schools Fall Literacy Night, the crops were shown off in a station that showed how basil can be used in numerous different ways. We can't wait to see what the garden teaches us next!
